Post Club Soda w/ The Webb Sisters

Friday, April 9th, 2010

It’s only been a little shy of 5 months time since the band and I have been playing small cafes around the city so you can imagine our excitement at receiving the opportunity to open for The Webb Sisters at Club Soda.

Before the show as we were reveling in our very own dressing room, Hattie of The Webb Sisters knocked on our door and sat down with us for a little chit chat. I absolutely fell in love with her outgoing, warm personality. A truly genuine human being. She even complimented our vocal harmonies which means so much coming from such a talent as herself.

It’s not everyday that you get to see your name up in lights on the marquee (even if it is misspelled – Vidya Luchtman!) Hey, I’ll take that :)

Refrain DVD/VOD on Sale Now!

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

The band and I had a great time performing the songs from the Refrain soundtrack at the DVD launch this past Saturday. Again, big thank you to all who came out. For those who don’t know about Refrain yet you can check out the trailer and download the songs from the soundtrack for free.

Refrain was a true passion project and it addresses a very tough issue – domestic violence. But music is also a big part of the movie. I think anyone who is struggling to find their voice will be able to relate.

Refrain is available at the following distributors:

Amazon.com (DVD both US & Int’l)
Amazon VOD (US Only)
Indlieflix (DVD & VOD both US & Int’l)
From the Refrain eStore (DVD both US & Int’l)

(DVD shipping costs vary for international locations from vendor to vendor.)

Thanks for your support and spread the word!

New Dynamic

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Yesterday, we had probably one of our best practices yet. Everyone was in sync and I can see that we’re growing a lot tighter as a group.

We hammered down the changes in the musical arrangements of some songs where Andy has worked his magic on lead guitar. As Andy likes to say “It’s all about the dynamics” and it’s amazing what a few little changes in the right places can do for a song.

Tomorrow will be our first show with Andy on lead guitar. The newly expanded band will make its debut in the intimate setting of the Yellow Door opening for Katie Sevigny at 8:30pm.

Hope to see you there!

p.s. I love hearing from our listeners so stay connected with us on our fan page through facebook

The Fortune Stick is Always Right

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Realizing that I forgot to fulfill my daily ritual of reading my Chinese fortune stick yesterday, this morning I marched straight into the kitchen and fished out my destiny. It read:

You work is best done alone not in a group

That may be true in the case of song writing but it is definitely not the case when it comes to playing with my band. And besides, how all-knowing is a fortune when it’s got a typo, right?

So, it’s official. We’ve added one more new band member to the mix and it’s sounding awesome. I’ve played with Andy a few times before and he has come up with some really great rifts on lead guitar. Yesterday was his first practice with the whole band and it seems like the missing piece has been filled.

Is it always this easy? Even since the beginning, this band has come together so naturally and with minimal effort on my end. God knows that I spent countless days in my younger years desperately trying to find myself a match – whether it was by assuming the position of a chameleon in someone else’s band or trying to twist musicians into being something they were not for my projects.

Good things come to those who wait.

Maybe that should have been on my fortune stick!

Back from the Holidays

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Sometimes we set out to do things with a plan in mind but as we all know life doesn’t always cooperate.

For instance, this holiday I spent close to two weeks at the family cottage expecting to be practicing and getting ready for our upcoming show. But then what happens? I end up catching a sinus cold! There goes singing. Fortunately though, the Food Network wasn’t out with a cold so it was able to keep me somewhat distracted from the work that I wanted so desperately to do.  Sure, pass the chicken soup please!

Good news is that I didn’t waste away my entire vacation being sick. Bright eyed and bushy tailed, I was all set to get cracking on the music with three days left to my holiday.

Well, aside from a couple of bumps in the road I think that this year will prove to be a rewarding one. I’m looking forward to our next show which is coming up on Friday, Jan. 22nd at good ol’ Shaika Cafe. We’re starting to be regulars at this joint!

First Show, First Interview

Monday, November 30th, 2009

First post, first show, first interview, can’t complain.

I played my debut show with my new band (have I mentioned yet how amazing they are?!) at Shaika on Fri, Nov. 20th. We played to a packed house and were greeted with tons of supportive listeners – I can’t think of a better way to kick things off!

After the show a new fan pulled us aside for an interview. You can check it out here bit.ly/5NjCqJ

So big thanks to each and everyone of you who came out to the show. Hope to see you again soon!
